Some snapshots of the produce we are getting from the allotment for 2020. 12 June 2020 Broad beans (Witkiem), Jersey Royal new potatoes, strawberries, red onion, garlic and spinach: 24 July 2020 Potatoes (Desiree), cauliflower, courgettes, cucumbers and shallots. 21 August 2020 Cabbage, flowers, sweetcorn, beetroot, raspberries, French beans.

Some Berlotti bean seeds ("lingua di fuoco") ordered from Ebay due to a current shortage / general unavailability from the well-known seed suppliers:   Set off on my windowsill for now ( 24 April 2020 ):   Updates to follow... 4 May 2020

A mixed packet of pumpkin / courgette and butternut squash: To start with (as of 18 April 2020) I have set off (from right to left) on my left windowsill  4 x Butternut squash (Early Butternut) 4 x Courgette (Black Beauty) 4 x Courgette (Golden Zucchini) 4 x Pumpkin (Yellow Scallop) Those few to the extreme left are pre-existing  cucumber seedlings: 25 April 2020 Starting to sprout in the greenhouse 4 May 2020 Further progress:

An unused packet of beetroot seeds of the 'Boltardy' type left over from last year (2019):   Containing approximately 275 seeds, which was enough to set out 2 rows approximately 16 inches apart:   Updates to follow.

Some time spent on a baking hot Easter bank holiday preparing the ground for the planting pof runner beans, using a combination of sticks cut from our cooking apple tree and bamboo canes...

Ground prepared for plating swede plug plants of unknown variety, and covered with enviromesh to prevent massacre from insects and rodents... More details to follow in documenting the plants progress...

Of the 'White Gem' variety: As per the instructions on the packet, I sow the seeds fairly thickly in two rows roughly 16 ins apart, and cover lightly with soil: More to follow...

It's probably still a little too cold but I've been itching to get planting for some time. What with the recent floods and weather it's been too wet. Picked up some first early potatoes of the 'Rocket' variety for £2.50 at B&Q .  (There seem to be some pretty good bargains at this time of the year, just before it all starts to kick off) And another bargain in the form of a 2kg bag of 'Pentland Javelin' half price at £2: These were been planted about 1ft apart in a freshly dug row, later dressed with a liberal dose of bone meal and chicken pellets: And here are the sprouting set of 'International Kidney' (aka 'Jersey Royals') saved from last year: So for future reference the potatoes put down in the following order so far (as of 4 April 2020) are: one full row of 'Rocket' first earlies,  one and a half rows of 'Jersey Royal',  one and a half rows of 'Charlotte' second earlies,
